About Doctor Swor

Dr. Swor has been in Florida most of his life, with some years growing up in the midwest. He received his medical degree from the University of South Florida College of Medicine in 1981 and did his ObGyn specialty training at the University of Florida in Jacksonville. He has trained additionally with some of the most respected gynecologists in the country. Always a student, he earned an MBA in 1999 from the USF College of Business Administration.

Dr. Swor has been serving the Sarasota area for over 25 years. In addition to many other leadership roles, he served as the chairman of the department of ObGyn at Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Systems from 2006-2011. The department was ranked #1 in Florida in 2006 by US News and World Report.

Since the early 1990's, he has been an assistant clinical professor in the department of ObGyn at USF Tampa and a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American College of Surgeons. Because of his early work in a new sub-specialty, Dr. Swor was also a founding member of the Accreditation Council of Advanced Laparoscopy and Hysteroscopy. He has many years of experience providing and training others in advanced Gyn, robotics, reconstructive and laser surgery. He is involved in many local boards and medical oversight committees and is a member of a number of national and international professional organizations. He has also been a consultant to medical device developers, engineers and the Florida Board of Medicine.

His interests are in new technology, advanced procedures and surgical safety. In 2007, he became one of the first gyn surgeons in the country to use the Davinci Robotic surgery technology, and he now trains other surgeons in the appropriate use of robotics and other techniques.

In 1992, he founded Surgical Safety Products, Inc., a company dedicated to improved patient care. That company expanded into the health information technology field and now is now developing new tests and treatments for cancer, Alzheimer's disease and drug resistance.

In 1994, Dr. Swor co-founded the Center for Advanced Surgery at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where new surgical technology is developed and tested. In 1997, he co-developed a healthcare technology system, Oasis Touch Access Information and later, launched a healthcare web-services company, I Business Lab. Always devoted to patient care as a priority, Dr. Swor currently limits his outside consulting time to teaching, special development projects and research.

Dr. Swor has a longtime special interest in natural health alternatives. He provides consulting services to the Natural Hormone Institute of America and helps educate and train healthcare professionals in the use of bio-identical hormones and other specialty treatments.

In 2002, he developed a program to help under-insured patients with prescription drug costs and participated in the development of a new weight management program for clinicians to help their patients more effectively.

He holds 6 US patents and has several other instruments and devices patent pending or in development.

He received a Business of the Year award from the Sarasota Chamber of Commerce in 1997 and was repeatedly been listed in the Castle-Connelly Top Doctors in America list as well as Suncoast Best™, BestDoctors™ and Best ObGyns in America. In 1998, he was honored with the prestigious Distinguished Alumni Award for Professional Achievement, by the University of South Florida.

Dr. Swor and his wife Gray love the Sarasota community and have lots of family in the area, including six kids, one grandchild, siblings and parents. Gray is a prominent cancer specialist, from Virginia originally, who also practices in Sarasota as well as Bradenton and Venice, Florida.
